GAA INJURY BENEFIT FUND

This is effective from January 1st, 2020 and the important details are summarised as follows.
The outline of the Fund and player advice can be found at Par 3, Page 1.
- Who is covered?
Only fully paid up and registered players (by March 1st) who sustain an injury during official matches or training sessions. (Page 2)
What are the Benefits?
Otherwise unrecoverable inpatient and outpatient medical expenses up to a max of €4,500.00. There is no cover for pre-op physiotheraphy (Page 6)
Loss of wages?
Cover is limited and is outlined at (Page 7)
What hospitals are listed in “Preferred Medical Provider Initiative”?
See list at (Page 8)
Exclusions and Limitations.?
A long list of matters that disqualify a claim are listed at (Page 10 and 11) They include, among others, not wearing a hurling helmet, not using a mouthguard, playing against medical advice etc. The most important exclusion is REPORTING THE INJURY MORE THAN 60 DAYS AFTER THE INJURY DATE.
Reporting Procedure.?
A designated member of team management should ensure that any player injury during a game is reported to the referee and he/she should be requested to include the same in his/her report.
All injuries (games or training) should also be reported to our Club Injury Fund Administrator (Niall Keogh 0876284043). He will report the injury to the Fund management and advise the injured player on how to proceed.
Please remember that you only have 60 days to report the injury via Niall Keogh above. Any report outside that time-frame will not be entertained by the Fund Managers.
Other matters.?
Any player with private medical insurance (VHI, Laya Health Care, Irish Life Health, Bupa, Garda Medical Aid etc. or cover under any Personal Accident policy a claim must be made with them (Page 14)
A player who feels that the Injury Benefit Fund is inadequate for their personal needs should take out a Private Policy.
IN THE EVENT OF A FRAUDULENT CLAIM the GAA can penalise the claimant and the Club severely (Page 19)
