Following a win over Glenflesk and a narrow defeat to Firies, the third round of the County League Div 1 took place at home against old rivals the Legion on Wednesday evening at 7pm.

The game began at a blistering pace and directly from the throw - in the Legion went on the attack and had the ball in the back of the net within seconds. What followed was a period of Legion dominance as they slotted over three points without reply to leave them ahead by 1-3 to no score. This was an unsettling start for our u16's but they dug deep and with a number of well taken scores and a well executed goal got right back into the game. The second quarter was dominated by the Crokes who demonstrated excellent teamwork. As the whistle blew for half time we headed to the dressing rooms ahead by three points on a scoreline of 1-6 to 1-3, this despite having missed a number of scorable chances.

The second half kicked off with a period of Crokes dominance and we very quickly stretched our lead from 1-6 to 2-7 with two well taken scores. However, this led to a Legion renaissance and with a succession of points they rolled back the deficit of 7 points. Our lads with their backs to the wall in a game that was at times on a knife edge began again to take control. With a skillfully executed third goal and a number of clinical points we eventually won this thrilling encounter on a score line of 3-11 to 1-12.

This was a close fought local derby that was at times impacted by controversial refereeing decisions. However it was a great win that demonstrated a fighting team spirit. Well done to the players, panel and their mentors.
