The U16 East Kerry Championship Final kicked off last Friday evening in Fitzgerald’s Stadium in beautiful September sunshine. The game began at pace and our U16’s got off to a strong start. From the outset we put huge pressure on the opposition and with excellent team work throughout, coupled with some well taken scores we ended the first half well on top on a score line of 1-9 to 4 points.
As expected, Rathmore came out fighting and dominated the third quarter of the game. The Dr Crokes backs were sticky and tenacious in their tackling and blocking and withstood this Rathmore onslaught. Overall, the second half was a tight affair with challenges at times going in hot and heavy. However, our gallant U16’s kept Rathmore at bay and saw the game out on a final score line of 2-14 to 13 points.
This was a well deserved win for the team and culminates a very successful season. We now conclude the year as East Kerry League and Championship winners and finalists in the County League. The lads played and trained diligently all year and are worthy champions.
Well done to everybody involved
