Senior County League Division 1 - Round 10
Rathmore 2-9 Dr Crokes 1-15
In a game which was easily the toughest and most competitive we played in this years league we emerged at the end three points in front. This left us unbeaten in the league in 2018 with 9 wins and one draw. It also qualified us for the final with a home venue with one round to go.
We had the better of exchanges in the first ten minutes and led by 0-4 to 0-2. Rathmore got well on top in the next ten minutes, scoring a goal and two points to our opponents one point in the remaining ten minutes. Rathmore went in at the interval 1-5 to 0-6 in front.
Rathmore added on two points in the first five minutes of the second half for a four point lead. We responded straight away with five unanswered points to go one point ahead at the end of the third quarter. Our opponents equalised a minute later but a goal by Jordan Kiely, which was the game changer, and a point by Brian Looney put us four points clear with ten minutes to go. Rathmore had the next score, a point, but three points without reply by us put us six points ahead going into the last few minutes. Our opponents had a goal in injury time but this was followed by the final whistle. This left us winners by three points and a place in the final.
Colm Cooper and Jordan Kiely scored 1-9 between them, 0-6 by the former and 1-3 by the latter. In a great team performance I am reluctant to mention individuals. On this occasion however I have to mention the outstanding display of Colm Cooper. It was vintange "Gooch" performance. He is not gone away.
The Rathmore field was in excellent order despite the deluge of rain on the day of the match and the previous day. Both sides responded with great displays of championship calibre.
