East Kerry Junior Championship O'Sullivan Cup sponsored by Killarney Carpet & Furniture Centre
A young Crokes team took on Scartaglin in the first round of the O'Sullivan Cup in Lewis Road on Tuesday night. Dr Crokes put early scores on the board thrrough good points from Mark Fitzgerald, Billy Courtney and Mark O'Shea but the visitors stayed in touch leaving the score 0-03 to 0-02 after 15 minutes. Crokes then lost the infuential Mark O'Shea to a Black Card and became more profligate in front of the posts. Points from Brendan Falvey, Brian Fitzgerald and Cian O'Neill gave the Crokes a deserved 0-06 to 0-04 lead at half time but it should have been more.
On the resumption Scartaglin reduced the Crokes lead to the minimum as the home side continued to be innaccurate in their shooting before three point in 3 minutes from Cian O'Neill, Brendan Falvey and Darren Doherty put Crokes up by four points at the three quarters mark.
Credit to Scartaglin, they fought back with two quality points. A Mikey Casey point pushed the lead out to three again but Scartaglin found the back of the net to level the tie with ten minutes to go and ensure a nervey finish.
Both sides had missed some chances in the closing stages before a third point from Brendan Falvey and a Bryan O'Shea point gave Crokes a two point lead with three minutes to go. Scartaglin fought to the finish and saw an affort rebound off the crossbar in additional time but Dr Crokes held on to win on a scoreline of 0-12 to 1-08.
Intermediate Hurling Championship Q/Final
Dr Crokes 2-18 Kenmare 0-11
Played at Lewis Road on Wednesday 18th July we recorded our second win of the Championship, this time against our old rivals, Kenmare.
Our team, backboned by several talented young players as well as a few experienced old campaigners led from start to finish. There was little between the teams for most of the game but the two goals, the first scored by Jack Lenihan shortly before half time and the second by Rob Ryan (after a searing run by Chris Doncel) along with a series of well taken points, notably by Richie Farrissey, put us in a commanding position and in the end we ran out as comfortable winners.
Kenmare will regret several missed chances both from play and placed balls as well as the sending off of one of their players late in the first half.
This was our best display of the season so far and we now face the winners of St. Brendans (Ardfert) and Causeway on next Wednesday 25th July at a neutral venue to be arranged in the County Semi Final.
