County League - Round 9

Played in Gallarus on Saturday 14th of July

An Ghaeltacht 1-11 Dr Crokes 3-18

Victory in Round 9 of the league kept us in poll position in the competition. This win was not as easy as the scoreline would suggest. Our opponents are a formidable team but on the day over very good first half display, aided by the breeze gave us a ten point lead at the interval. This made our opponents task of overhauling us a very tough assignment. Even though you have the elements with you it does not always guarantee a lead but we accomplished this through our supremacy at midfield. Johnny Buckley and Daithi Casey shone out in this sector and our forwards took their chances and had some very good scores.

Our opponents came at us in the third quarter but we dealt fairly well with this onslaught, added on some scores ourselves and had a good lead going into the last quarter. Both sides ran their benches in the last fifteen minutes and when the game ended with a victory for us it brought our tally of points to 17 in the competition with nine games played. This left us still at the top of the table with two games to play.

Team: Johnny O'Leary, John Payne, Mike Moloney, David O'Leary, Shane Doolan, Alan O'Sullivan, Fionn Fitzgerald, Johnny Buckley, Daithi Casey, Billy Courtney, Gavin O'Shea, Brian Looney, Tony Brosnan, Mark O'Shea, Jordan Kiely.

Subs: Kieran Ward, Colm Cooper, Brian Fitzgerald, Cillian Fitzgerald, Paul Clarke.

Intermediate Hurling Championship

We had a big win in the Preliminary Round of the Intermediate Hurling Championship on last Wednesday evening against Abbeydorney.

Our young team ran out impressive winners on a scoreline of 5-24  to 1-5.

Next up is on Wednesday next, July 18th at home against Kenmare at 7.30pm. when we would be foolish to expect a repeat this time against opponents who are sure to be a lot more formidable. All support appreciated.
