County League Division 1 – Round 6
Dr. Crokes 1-17 : Kerins O’Rahillys 1-08
Played in Lewis Road on Saturday 9th June 2018
Despite our nine point victory this game was far from a runaway win as Kerins O’Rahillys had plenty of play but we were more economical with our shooting and three of our forwards scored 1-13 between them, Tony Brosnan 0-5, Jordan Kiely 0-5 and Billy Courtney 1-3. Johnny Buckley was also a huge asset to us at midfield where he got great support from Eoin Brosnan. Credit must go also to a good defence who had to be at their best to contain a very lively Strand Road forward line.
Both teams managed only two points each in the first quarter even though neither team resorted to sweepers. It was hard to imagine that both teams would score freely in the remaining three quarters as we sent over 1-15 and our opponents 1-6. We got on top in the second quarter and a goal by Billy Courtney in the 23rd minute helped us to lead 1-7 to 0-4 at the interval.
Kerins O’Rahillys attacked strongly at the start of the second half and reduced our lead to a point after seven minutes of the third quarter. We got on top again and eight points without reply sent us nine points ahead. Both teams scored two points each in the last seven minutes to leave us comfortable enough winners at the end.

County League Division 1 - Round 7
Played in Lewis Road on Saturday 16th of June
Killarney Legion 1-11 Dr Crokes 0-19
In a game which was a shoot out from the start to finish with neither side employing sweepers we ran out in the end winners by five points.
We enjoyed territorial advantage in the first half and would have to be pleased of our score of tweleve points at the interval. Our opponents with far less chances managed 1-3 in this first half. This left them six points in arrears but with everything to play for in the second half.
Legion were well on top in the first ten minutes of the second half, adding on three points without reply in this period. They were also denied a goal by our keeper Johnny O'Leary who mad a great save in the 38th minute. We had three unanswered points in the next five minutes to leave us six points ahead again as we entered the last quarter. Both teams exchanged points on a few occasions in the last fifteen minutes. Our opponents did get the deficit down to four points at one stage but we had the last score, a point in injury time. This gave us victory by five points.
Both managements were probably happy enough with the displays of their team. I was happy that we had a good team display with outstanding individual displays by Johnny Buckley and Tony Brosnan. Our mentors might have been disappointed that we hardly created any goal scoring chances.
Team and Scorers: Johnny O'Leary, John Payne, Mike Moloney, Brian Fitzgerald, Shane Doolan, Jason Lyne, Alan O'Sullivan, Johnny Buckley 0-4, Eoin Brosnan, Billy Courtney 0-1 (free), Gavin O'Shea 0-1, Brian Looney 0-2, Tony Brosnan 0-8 (0-4 frees), Mark O'Shea, Jordan Kiely 0-3.
Subs: Michael Potts, David O'Leary, Paul Clarke.
