The East Kerry u16 Division 1 League Final sponsored by MD O’ Shea and Sons, was
played at Lewis Road last Monday evening. The heavy rain of earlier that day passed
over, and conditions were good for what was a very entertaining game. We had secured
home advantage on the night as we had won all of our games in the league.
Following a one sided game in the first round of the League this game was cracking
game between two evenly matched teams. We were ahead by 1-01 to 0-01 after 10
minutes and probably left a few scoring opportunities after us before half time, but were
ahead by 1-03 to 0-04 at the break.
The second half continued with some great free flowing football and some great physical
exchanges between both teams, and we were ahead by 4points with 10 minutes to go.
Rathmore finished this half the stronger and had 3 unanswered points to draw level at full
time, ensuring extra time to be played on the night.
The management rallied the boys for the extra time and a mighty team performance led to
a great victory on a score line of 2-06 to 1-09 at full time. There was a lot of tired bodies
after a great contest, and Padraig Looney proudly received the trophy on behalf of the
team. This was a great start to the year for the lads who take a well-earned break before
the County League commences next month. Congrats to all of the panel and management
involved in this great start to their year.
